Kemas Sarawak aims big at coming national-level event

KUCHING: The Community Developmen­t Department (Kemas) Sarawak has high hopes that it will win big at the upcoming `Hari Potensi Kemas’ to be held at Politeknik Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan from Nov 22 to 25.

Speaking at the state-level Hari Potensi Kemas held at the Youth and Sports Complex here yesterday, Kemas Sarawak director Mohamad Zamri Mustajap said they are aiming to be among the big winners at the event.

“We will provide the winning groups training and profession­al guidance in their respective categories,” he said.

Also present was Human Resource and Administra­tion section head Ahmad Johari Mohammad, representi­ng Kemas Malaysia director- general Dato Amirudidin Ariffin.

In his speech, Ahmad Johari said the government is studying the system used in other countries to ensure that the Informal Nursery and Preschool Education used in Kemas is of the best quality from all aspects.

On the event, he said it was an opportunit­y for Kemas children across Malaysia to show their talents.

“Hari Potensi Kemas can be a platform where children can develop their interest, skills and potential while practising selfconfid­ence and tolerance,” he said.

He added that Kemas Sarawak still has time to hone their statelevel winners into competitiv­e shape, and challenged them to set their eye on winning gold.

A total of 370 Tabika Kemas children from six zones in Sarawak competed in 11 categories of creative expression under the theme `Towards the 21st Century’.

Kemas Zone 3 ( Betong) emerged champion and will be representi­ng Sarawak on the national level.

Zone 1 ( Kuching) and Zone 2 ( Samarahan) took second and third place respective­ly.

Meanwhile, an award of excellence went to Trevor Marquez Tim from Zone 6 (Miri).

Prizes were also awarded for storytelli­ng, speech, as well as outstandin­g Kemas pre- schools and nurseries.
