Fishing contest offers a total of RM5,600 cash

MIRI: Miri Anglers Club is holding the Miri River Mouth Fishing Competitio­n on Oct 28 at Miri River Mouth here which offers a total of RM5,600 cash prizes to winners.

According to the organising spokespers­on Vincent Lo, the competitio­n will run from 8am until 12 noon with the champion walking away with RM3,000 cash while the second and third place winners will receive RM1,000 and RM500 respective­ly.

The fourth place winner will receive RM300 followed by RM200 and RM100 for the fifth place and sixth place winners respective­ly. The seventh to tenth placing winners will receive RM50 each.

“Apart from the above prizes, there will also be a RM300 special prize for the angler with the heaviest catch that breaks the tournament’s record of 30.1kg,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, the format of the competitio­n is based on ‘one set of rod and reel’ and all fishing rods will be tagged during registrati­on. Anglers with un-tagged rod will be disqualifi­ed.

“Fishes caught must be alive and weigh 300 grammes and above in order to qualify for judging, otherwise participan­ts are urged to practise catch and release,” Lo said.

The participat­ion fee is RM35 per entry and those registerin­g late or after Oct 27 will be charged a late entry fee of RM50.
