KUCHING: Great distance is not an obstacle to voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw when it comes to bringing aid to those who need them.

Lim and a group of good Samaritans recently travelled 60km from here to Serian to assist the Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) there bringing along supply of essential items like rice, sugar, cooking oil and even snacks.

The social worker a retired Marine Police personnel and now devoted to doing charity work said the group purchased the food items to help ease the financial burden of PDK Serian which currently cares for about 50 disabled children.

“This is the first time we are assisting PDK Serian. We want to help them reduce their financial expenditure by giving this assistance. It is also in line with our aim to help needy organisations and individuals irrespective of religious and racial background,” said Lim.

He thanked donors comprising a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No. 2, Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Hii and Mr Chia from Jalan Matang as well as others for their contribution in this latest charity act.

On a related matter, Lim also said he can be contacted at 082248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.

He explained that cash donations from good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request is received.

So far such assistance had been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 KuchingSerian Road and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
