Six teams vie for honour at Inter Community Golf this weekend

KUCHING: The Sarawak Inter Community Golf Tan Sri William Mawan’s Chal lenge Trophy tournament is back with its 11th edition at Kelab Golf Sarawak ( KGS) in Petra Jaya where six teams have confirmed taking part in the challenge tomorrow.

They are the Iban, Bidayuh, gross defending champion Malay, nett defending champion Melanau, Chinese and Orang Ulu.

Hosted and organised by KGS since 2008, the main objective of the annual tournament is to further strengthen the unity among the various communitie­s through golf while winning the tournament is secondary to the participan­ts.

“We feel very grateful that our patron Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom has agreed to continue to support us in this tournament.

“He has been very supportive for the past 10 years,” said KGS tournament director Mazlan Mohamad Sal leh dur ing a courtesy call on Mawan at his office yesterday.

Mazlan was accompanie­d by KGS captain Henry Chuo Kuong Hang, commit tee member Stephen Maw, KGS activities manager Shirleyna Kim Dupo and team captains or their representa­tives.

“KGS will organise more events as such to ensure the unity among its members who come from various races and may enjoy each other’s company.

“We wish all six teams the best of luck and may good fellowship and camaraderi­e bring harmony among various communitie­s in KGS and Sarawak,” Mazlan added.

Apart from the gross and nett categories, the Invited Guests category will also be held where the six community teams can each field three lady golfers.
