Lee commends Fajar Int’l College for promoting OSH programmes
MIRI: All parties must help the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) create a safe working environment with zero accident.
NIOSH chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said preliminary statistics from Department of Occupational Safety and Health show that the rate of workplace accidents increased to 2.93 for every 1,000 workers in 2017, with industrial death rising to 4.9 per 100,000 workers.
“Under OSH Master Plan 2016-2020, the Human Resource Ministry targets to reduce industrial accidents to 2.53 per 1,000 workers and fatality rate to 4.36 per 100,000 workers,” said Lee at Fajar International College convocation at Pullman Hotel Miri Waterfront yesterday. Also present was the college’s CEO Dr Peter Tham.
Lee commended Fajar for developing and promoting OSH programmes to produce high quality graduates who help create awareness on OSH in the community. Fajar’s Diploma in OSH is the only programme recognised by the Ministry of Educ at ion, Mal aysi a n Qualifications Agency ( MQA) and Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
Other programmes at the college accredited by MQA are Diploma in Accounting, Diploma in Human Resource Management and Diploma in Business Studies.
A total of 301 students received their certificates yesterday with eight under the Dean’s List 2018 for achieving overall CGPA of 3.8 and above, namely Alvin Hii How Leong, Angelina Poh, Mohamad Hafizul Hamzah, Ng Zhiu Xin, Nurul Aida Zakiyah Abdul Karim, Sum Siew Ching, Tan Lee Ming and Terisa Leja Alin.
Best students for 2018 were Terisa Leja Alin, Wong Chu Ting, Felicity Harold and Tan Lee Ming.
