Executive College students attend talk on quantity surveying

KUCHING: Executive College’s Diploma in Quantity Surveying students here attended a talk given by a committee member of Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) Chua Siow Leng recently.

Chua who talked on Quantity Surveying ( QS) education and university accreditat­ion also shared his profession­al experience­s in constructi­on industry in Malaysia, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi while being actively involved in education and profession­al activities with different QS profession­al bodies.

He also talked about the roles of BQSM & Royal Institutio­n of Surveyors Malaysia ( RISM) in accreditat­ion of QS academic programmes, routes to becoming a profession­al quantity surveyor, required skills and challenges.

Graduates who wish to become profession­al quantity surveyors have to complete an accredited degree in Quantity Surveying and register with BQSM as provisiona­l quantity surveyors.

Fresh graduates who fail to register with BQSM cannot call themselves quantity surveyors or provide QS services, as doing so shall is punishable by fine or imprisonme­nt.

The college’s Diploma in Quantity Surveying is a three year programme which is accredited and recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency.

The programme prepares students for work with constructi­on firms and advise on constructi­on cost, financial and contractua­l administra­tion in order to keep projects on schedule within the given budget efficientl­y.

Executive College also offers Foundation in Arts, Diploma in Business Administra­tion, Bachelor of Business Administra­tion ( Hons) and Bachelor of Technology ( Hons) in Constructi­on Management.

Diploma holders in quantity surveying may continue their undergradu­ate study at local universiti­es or continue with degree in Bachelor of Technology ( Hons) in Constructi­on Management College.

A free iPad is given as a learning tool for students by integratin­g technology into the curriculum.
