Permata Kolej team emerges northern region champion in culture competition
MIRI: Permata Kolej team from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang emerged champion for northern region in the InterSecondary Schools Local Culture Heritage Competition 2018 held at Pustaka Miri here yesterday.
The team walked home with RM3,000, trophy, certificate and certificate of participation.
Borneo Culture V2 from SMK Bakong was second while another team from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang Miri – Borneo Culture V2 was in third spot. The second and third place winners received RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively plus trophy, winning certificate and certificate of appreciation each.
Seven consolation prizes were also presented to the fourth to tenth placing winners, namely Panggau Kenyalang (SMK Riam Miri), Long Lama Explorers ( SMK Long Lama, Baram), Asisimpung Ansilulum ( SMK Merapok, Lawas), Marudi Team A ( SMK Marudi, Baram), Nujah Menua ( SM Sains Miri) and Marudi Team B also from SMK Marudi.
Apart from the above prizes, there were also two special awards presented in the competition – The Best Guidance Teacher Award and The Best Performance Award that offered RM500 and certificate of participation to the winners.
Liza Juni from Permata Kolej was given Best Guidance Teacher Award while The Best Performance Award went to Panggau Kenyalang of SMK Riam Miri.
Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni presented prizes to all the winners.
The competition organised by Pustaka Miri in collaboration with Sarawak education office attracted a 39 teams from 17 secondary schools in the northern region.
The participating schools from Miri were Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, SMK Lutong, SMK Pujut, SM Sains Miri, SMK Lopeng Tengah, SMK Taman Tunku, SMK Riam and SMK Luar Bandar); one school in Batu Niah – SMK Subis; five schools in Baram comprised SMK Bakong, SMK Marudi, SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau Baram, SMK Tinjar and SMK Long Lama; SMK Medamit (Limbang); SMK Merapok (Lawas) and SMK Kidurung ( Bintulu).
The main objective of the competition was to expose participants to research- based writing as one of the ways to support existing culture preservation works.
Also present was Pustaka Miri’s librarian Lilian Baun Pulo.
