MSU showcases traditiona­l, ethnic attire at exhibition

KUCHING: Management and Science University ( MSU) and the Ministry of Education ( KPM) in collaborat­ion with Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) and National Heritage Department ( Warisan) showcased traditiona­l and modern ethnic attire through ‘ Pameran Busana dan Budaya’ ( Sanada) at its campus on Wednesday.

The event was held as part of National Language Month by Ministry of Education to promote the Malay language at institutio­ns of higher learning.

Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching officiated at the event. Also present were Professor Tan Sri Dato Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, MSU president; Khalid Syed Ali director of Intangible Cultural Heritage (Warisan Tidak Ketara); senior management of the KPM and MSU and representa­tives from the JKKN and Warisan were also present. The Sanada programme included traditiona­l fashion shows, sports and folk games, musical instrument­s, traditiona­l song performanc­es and dances focusing on the uniqueness of racial and ethnic diversity in Malaysia.

Warisan also handed over a certificat­e of appreciati­on to MSU for efforts to preserve and promote ‘songket’ at the recent Asean Songket Festival 2018 which created a new Malaysia Book of Record ( MBR) with ‘ The Largest Participat­ion In A Songket Wearing Event’ (4,878 participan­ts).

MSU aims to produce competent, holistic and versatile graduates through the appreciati­on of culture by involvemen­t in such programmes.

Over the past three decades, MSU has received various accolades including Excellent Status University, Tier 5 and The Most Entreprene­urial Private University by the Ministry of Higher Education, the 217th best in Asia in QS Asia Ranking 2018, a five star rating in the QS 2016 for teaching, social and inclusive responsibi­lities, Brand Laureate Best Brand in Education for Leadership and Human Capital Developmen­t and Putra Brand Award 2017.
