MSU showcases traditional, ethnic attire at exhibition
KUCHING: Management and Science University ( MSU) and the Ministry of Education ( KPM) in collaboration with Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) and National Heritage Department ( Warisan) showcased traditional and modern ethnic attire through ‘ Pameran Busana dan Budaya’ ( Sanada) at its campus on Wednesday.
The event was held as part of National Language Month by Ministry of Education to promote the Malay language at institutions of higher learning.
Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching officiated at the event. Also present were Professor Tan Sri Dato Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, MSU president; Khalid Syed Ali director of Intangible Cultural Heritage (Warisan Tidak Ketara); senior management of the KPM and MSU and representatives from the JKKN and Warisan were also present. The Sanada programme included traditional fashion shows, sports and folk games, musical instruments, traditional song performances and dances focusing on the uniqueness of racial and ethnic diversity in Malaysia.
Warisan also handed over a certificate of appreciation to MSU for efforts to preserve and promote ‘songket’ at the recent Asean Songket Festival 2018 which created a new Malaysia Book of Record ( MBR) with ‘ The Largest Participation In A Songket Wearing Event’ (4,878 participants).
MSU aims to produce competent, holistic and versatile graduates through the appreciation of culture by involvement in such programmes.
Over the past three decades, MSU has received various accolades including Excellent Status University, Tier 5 and The Most Entrepreneurial Private University by the Ministry of Higher Education, the 217th best in Asia in QS Asia Ranking 2018, a five star rating in the QS 2016 for teaching, social and inclusive responsibilities, Brand Laureate Best Brand in Education for Leadership and Human Capital Development and Putra Brand Award 2017.
