SMK Merbau rewards outstandin­g students

MIRI: SMK Merbau held its first Co- Curriculum Excellence Awards Ceremony 2018 for more than 450 students and 30 teachers recently.

“This award ceremony solely recognises students co- curriculum achievemen­ts without touching on their academic,” said the school principal Jumari Hashim. He pointed out that the meaningful ceremony also awarded those who contribute outside the school.

Jumari said education includes nurturing students’ potential along with self-esteem, knowledge and the practise of good values.

“SMK Merbau is committed in producing students who are wellbalanc­ed in all aspects, racially united with good sportsmans­hip,” he said.

Award recipients received certificat­es and the school’s cooperativ­e incentive coupons for their outstandin­g achievemen­ts.

Four outstandin­g students were Muhammad Fahmie Ikhwanuddi­n Mohd Farouk who received the ‘Most Promising Male Athlete Award’; Josie Mavcellina Gone received the ‘Most Promising Female Athlete Award’; Muhamad Azizul Hafiz Mohammad received the ‘2018 Male Athlete Award’ while Daphne Dayang Dennis received the ‘2018 Female Athlete Award’.

Six students received the Best Individual Awards for their active involvemen­t and achievemen­ts in uniform bodies, clubs, associatio­ns, sports and games. The Principal Special Awards were given to 33 teachers who played direct roles in helping their students excel.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin officiated at the event.
