American zombies to ride on the ‘Train to Busan’ soon

SEOUL: American zombies could soon be riding the ‘ Train to Busan’ as the flick will be getting the Hollywood treatment.

According to reports from the US film industry, the 2016 Korean blockbuster will get a remake.

Several media outlets including Vulture reported that Malaysian-born Australian director James Wan, who created hit horror film franchise ‘Saw’, will produce the remake of the Korean zombie film.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote earlier this week that New Line Cinema won the heavily contested bidding for the rights to an English-language remake of the film.

Other major film production companies Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures had reportedly vied for the remake rights.

The original film directed by Yeon Sang-ho mostly takes place on a moving train bound to the southeastern port city of Busan, as passengers strive to survive in a confined space filled with the undead.

Yeon will also be producing his own sequel, ‘ Bando’, or ‘Peninsula’.

The director previously made his name in animated films with dark themes, and released the animated ‘Seoul Station’, which occurs concurrently to the events of ‘ Train to Busan’, also in 2016.

Yeon’s follow-up will depict Korea after the zombie virus has spread.
