Work on schedule
Telok Melano – Sematan stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway to be open by next January, ministry satisfied with progress
SEMATAN: The first package of the Pan Borneo Highway project which stretches 32.7km from Telok Melano to Sematan will be completed according to the original schedule.
Work Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zohari Akob said the ministry had received a commitment from the contractors and the project delivery partner, Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU), that this stretch of the highway would be completed according to the original schedule.
“We expect the stretch to open by January next year, but subject to approval from all relevant parties,” Zohari said when met after inspecting the work progress at Telok Melano near here yesterday.
He said they were satisfied with the work progress so far.
“We hope that work on this stretch will maintain its momentum so that contractors of other packages would use it as an example and an inspiration,” he said.
The Works Ministry in collaboration with the Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd, is conducting a three – day Pan Borneo Expressway tour starting yesterday, to check on developments on the highway.
Zohari said the weather did play a role in the work progress but the projection did take into account the weather.

Works Ministry and LBU were also present at the inspection.
Among those joining the inspection tour are officials from the Works Ministry, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, Sarawak Public Works Department, and several media personnel.
They will go to two out of 11 work packages of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak.
