Over 120 refund applications handed over to Land and Survey Department
KUCHING: More than 120 land premium refund applications from residents of Desa Wira in Batu Kawa and BDC Stampin Resettlement scheme have been handed over to the Land and Survey Department for processing.
Political secretary to the chief minister Tan Kai said the applications were received from counters set up in those areas by the service centre for Batu Kawah constituency.
He explained the setting up of the counters was made possible following a request by its assemblyman Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian to the Land and Survey Department for the convenience of the applicants. Dr Sim is the Minister of Local Government and Housing.
“The Batu Kawah Service Centre not only helped the applicants to fill up the forms but also ensure the documents required are complete before submitted to the Land and Survey Department.
“We will continue to set up the counters again at appropriate venues. Nonetheless, eligible applicants are still welcome at Batu Kawah Service Centre if they need assistance pertaining the refund application,” he said.
It was reported recently in the local media that some 7,174 land titles throughout Sarawak will receive refund payment amounting to more than RM43 million following the reduction of land premium for all residential lots in resettlement schemes and village extension schemes in the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was quoted as saying on Sept 6 the Sarawak government was committed in ensuring the 50 per cent reduction was duly implemented for the benefit of low income groups after he made the announcement on May 7 this year.
