WAK: Stroll through history of Brooke Rajahs this October

-

KUCHING: ‘Stroll Through Sarawak’s Very Unique History’ and learn all about The Brooke Rajahs with Sarawak Heritage Society in this guided tour, specially designed for What About Kuching 2018.

After last year’s interesting “A Stroll through Kuching’s Chinese History”, heritage guide Paul Gerarts will take visitors into the captivating story of James Brooke, from how he came to Kuching, and formed Sarawak, putting the wellbeing of the indigenous people first.

“Many people may have heard or read about the White Rajahs, but for some, the questions may not get a good answer. In that case, it is worthwhile joining the Stroll,” said Gerarts.

Topics covered will include why James Brooke came to Sarawak, what his life was before Sarawak, and how it influenced his reign.

It will also cover the Chinese Revolt in 1857, and what set the Brooke’s government apart.

Tours will be conducted on October 6, 7, 13, 27 and 28 from 10am to about 11.30am, starting from the entrance of Fort Margherita and concluding on the rooftop of the fort, with beautiful view of Kuching and the Sarawak River.

The normal entry fee for Brooke Gallery applies.

Registration is required as each tour is limited to 14 participants. Book your slot by sending your name and preferred s to 0149074406 (WhatsApp or SMS).

The tour is part of ‘What About Kuching (WAK) 2018 - Celebrate Arts, Culture and Lifestyle’ from Sept 29 to Oct 28.
