School short of RM3 million for new block

-

KUCHING: SJK (C) Chung Hua Batu 4 1/2 is short of RM3 million for its new school block costing about RM5 million.

Construction of the four-storey building to house 15 classrooms, an administrative room and a multi-purpose hall is scheduled to commence after the next Lunar New Year for completion by end of next year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg pledged a RM500,000 government grant for the project last May.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian handed over the grant to the school building committee during the project’s groundbreaking ceremony Friday.

With him at the ceremony was Temenggong Tan Joo Phoi.

Currently, SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 1/2 has 1,043 pupils but its existing classrooms cannot meet the increasing number of students with 200 new students every year. The school had to turn down quite a number of new pupils.

The school building committee is organising ‘Fund My School’ event this Nov 11 to raise RM300,000.

Members of the public are encouraged to support the fundraising event which will have a variety of food, handicraft items and others.

The school has also set up a donation counter at the school. Donations can be made to the school building committee during school hours. Receipts will be given.
