Forging international ties among Commonwealth countries
KUCHING: A new Commonwealth leadership organisation is being launched in Malaysia after it held its inaugural meeting earlier this month in Sarawak.
The meeting of the Commonwealth Association of Leadership Malaysia (CALM) took place at a hotel here recently, involving alumni of several Commonwealth leadership programmes from across Malaysia and around the world including Australia, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
CALM is headed by its inaugural president Hanaa Wong Abdullah, an experienced and successful entrepreneur and educator living in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
“The two main missions of CALM will be to serve Commonwealth Study Conferences (CSC) and Emerging Leaders Dialogue (ELD) Alumni in Malaysia and to foster international relations between Malaysia and Commonwealth countries.
“CALM will also represent Malaysia in organising an international CSC alumni conference in 2020 that will attract delegates from around the world,” said Hanna.
The two-day meeting comprised of workshops and networking as a pre-cursor to the official launch of CALM in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 25 by Her Excellency Julia Bentley, the High Commissioner of Canada.
CALM will work closely with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences, whose royal patron is The Princess Royal, Princess Anne.
