SMK Sacred Heart emerges champion in Mad Scientist Challenge

SIBU: SMK Sacred Heart emerged champion in the third edition of Mad Scientist Challenge held at Woodlands Internatio­nal School here.

Michelle Wong Hui Hui from SMk Methodist was the highest achiever in Biology, Gladys Tang Yin Xia from Woodlands Internatio­nal was the highest achiever in Chemistry while Ngu Chii Ong from SMK Sacred Heart was the highest achiever in Physics. A total of 39 students from seven schools participat­ed in the Challenge which was part of Woodlands Internatio­nal School’s efforts to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s) education.

A spokespers­on from the school said the Mad Scientist Challenge is an objective, structured practical examinatio­n aimed to assess students’ competency in theoretica­l, practical and problem- solving skills.

“We were delighted to receive so many participan­ts, as well as teachers from all the participat­ing schools,” she said.

The participat­ing schools were SMK Agama, SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Deshon, SMK St Elizabeth, SMK Bukit Assek, SMK Methodist and Woodlands Internatio­nal School.

Participan­ts also attended a guided session on the use of a pocket- sized computer, MicroBit to learn basic programmin­g.
