Road bully filmed by victim sentenced to 7 years’ jail, caning

KUCHING: A man was sentenced to a total of seven years’ jail and ordered to be whipped for threatenin­g a woman driver with a machete and damaging her car.

Mohammad Farees Kenit, 29, pleaded guilty in the magistrate­s’ court here Monday to three charges – possession of an offensive weapon, criminal intimidati­on, and mischief.

The sentences are to run concurrent­ly from the date of his arrest – meaning that he would spend the next five years in prison.

The Magistrate also ordered him to be caned twice for the charge of possessing an offensive weapon, in the form of a 12-inch machete.

The incident occurred at 10.50am on Sept 26 at a traffic light intersecti­on near Kuching Sentral, when Mohammad Farees overtook the woman’s car by cutting into her lane as soon as the traffic light turned green.

Fearing a collision, she responded by honking at him, after which he responded by blocking her car in front of a bank at Jalan Penrissen and punching her window before driving off.

The woman, however, gave chase until the Jalan Penrissen- Jalan Liu Shan Bang- Jalan Batu Kitang traffic light intersecti­on when Mohammad Farees, armed with the machete, came out of his car and smashed her side window before opening her car door.

The woman escaped via the front passenger door and used her mobile phone to record his actions.

Realising he was being filmed, Mohammad Farees got back into his car and rammed the victim’s car before speeding off.

The recorded footage went viral on social media – Mohammad Farees was arrested by police at a house in Kampung Lidah Tanah, Bau around 9pm the same day.
