DVS to hold free mass anti-rabies vaccinatio­n in Sarikei tomorrow

SARIKEI: Local dog owners whose pets have yet to receive anti- rabies vaccinatio­n can bring the animals to Sarikei Veterinary Services Department ( DVS) office at Jalan Kapur here tomorrow ( Oct 4), where a mass vaccinatio­n exercise will be conducted from 8.30am to 5pm.

According to DVS Sarikei officer in- charge Mathews Joan, the free programme is meant for pet dogs that have never been vaccinated, or those that last vaccinated more than a year ago.

He adds that the department also provides free anti- rabies vaccinatio­n services at the DVS Sarikei office and DVS Meradong office at Jalan Janting, Bintangor every working day – 8.30am12.30pm and 2pm- 4pm.

“Upon bringing their dogs for vaccinatio­n, the owners are also required to bring along their identifica­tion cards to facilitate the registrati­on process,” he said in a statement.

Mathews also reminded the owners to have their dogs vaccinated to ensure that the spread of rabies could be contained effectivel­y, adding that as a good preventive measure, the owners should to place their pets in cages.

He also emphasised that under Section 37(2) of Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999, pet owners must not bring out any dog from rabies-infected areas.

For the record, three areas in Sarikei Division have been declared as being ‘ rabiesinfe­cted’ – SMK Julau 1, KM 0.2 Jalan Jakar Sebangkoi, Sarikei and Jalan Kilang, Bintangor.
