Coffee shop operators advised against feeding strays

SIBU: Coffee shop operators here will be compounded if they are found to be feeding strays at their premises.

Sibu Municipal Council ( SMC) deputy chairwoman Rogayah Jamain said operators were responsible to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of their premises.

“They are advised not to feed the stray dogs/cats as that is one of conditions stipulated in their licence.”

She said this after being asked on stray dogs seen roaming around coffee shops here, waiting for food scraps.

She also advised members of the public against feeding stray dogs/cats in any food outlets.

“It is the responsibility of the eatery owners to advise their customers not to do so. Also, they can request the council to impound any stray dogs found roaming in their coffeeshop area.”

The State Disaster Management Committee declared five new areas as ‘ rabies-infected areas’ last Thursday, bringing the total number of gazetted rabiesinfected areas in Sarawak to 41.

The new areas are Jalan Teng Chin Hua (Sibu); Jalan Kilang, Bintangor Meradong, Sarikei; Jalan Airport Lama Kapit; and Piasau Jaya and Lutong Shell (Miri).

On another note, Rogayah said the 21 traders would move back to the newly- renovated Khoo Peng Loong Market this month.
