Minister: FTRoadpedia tour a viable way to assess Pan Borneo Highway progress
MIRI: Works Minister Baru Bian views the just- concluded ‘Jelajah FTRoadpedia’ as a good means for the relevant authorities and stakeholders to monitor the progress of Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak project.
The three- day road trip led by Baru, which kicked off from Telok Melano in Sematan last Saturday, comprised key representatives of his ministry, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transportation Sarawak, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, highway project delivery partner Lebuhraya Borneo Utara ( LBU) Sdn Bhd and several members of the media.
The convoy reached here on Monday night after covering a journey spanning over 1,000km along the still-under- construction Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak.
On the mega project, Baru was happy to see that despite many challenges, the development was progressing ‘very well’.
“The purpose of having ‘Jelajah FTRoadpedia’ was to see for ourselves what’s the progress on the ground because this is a very big project not only in Sarawak, but also in Sabah,” said the minister during the dinner held to mark the end of the tour here on Monday.
“I was continuously briefed along the way, especially on the works progress ( of Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak). I was informed that there was a bit of delay in some sectors – between one and two per cent – except the Serian Interchange, which was six per cent behind time.
“But we were assured ( by the contractors) that they would reduce the difference in the works progress.
“I think this is a very good thing to do because we want to ensure that this project would be completed within the expected time period,” said Baru, who is Selangau MP.
