KOTA SAMARAHAN: Graduates who intend to work with the Ministry of Health are reminded to practise dynamic leadership, trust and integrity without thinking of reaping rewards for themselves and their families.

Ministry of Health secretary general Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min said the services rendered must always have characteristics of concern and care in line with the ministry’s motto of ‘ We’re Ready to Help’ and ‘ To Cure Sometimes, To Relieve Of ten, To Comfort Always’.

“What I expect from our graduates is that they have the courage to take risks, are capable to manage differences, competent to make choices, possess inner peace, competitive, selflessness and play a role in the community.

“Consider patients and their families as our own family,” he said at the convocation ceremony of the ministry’s Training Institute Sarawak Zone at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) here yesterday.

Dr Chen said the health system of today often faced issues and chal lenges closely related to changes in demographic profiles, contagious epidemics and lifestyle- related diseases.

As such, he called on graduates to constantly equip themselves with knowledge on health because their true education process had only just begun.

“The public health service wil l cont inuously improve through services provided by the ministry, particularly in rural and interior areas.

“Focus will be directed towards strategies to enhance targeted support especially for underserved communities; enhancing delivery systems for bet ter health; expanding capacity to enhance access to healthcare services ; and intensi fying collaboration between public and private sectors as well as non- governmental agencies to raise health awareness.”

A total of 1,551 graduates from throughout Sarawak received their respective diplomas in the fields of nursing, radiography, medicine lab technology and environmental health, among others.
