‘IRB approved about 8,000 applications for tax exemption since 1967’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board ( IRB) has approved about 8,000 tax exemption applications from non- governmental organisations ( NGOs), associations and foundations since 1967.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said each application submitted must meet the requirements under Section 44 ( 6) of the Income Tax Act 1967.

“We have received a lot of tax exemption applications from NGOs and foundations. However, some were denied due to failure to comply with the requirements.

“Other rejection factors are incomplete documentation or the organisation does not meet its objective,” he told reporters after launching ‘A Morning with LHDNM, Know How of NGO Tax Exemption Process’ programme here yesterday.

Hence, he urged each NGO and foundation to obtain the accurate and detailed information from the IRB before submitting applications.

Meanwhile, Sabin said the tax payment compliance among eligible NGOs was satisfactory.

“The level of tax payment compliance for those who are eligible is satisfactory and has also helped the IRB tax collection,” he said.

At the event, Sabin also launched the agency’s latest initiative, the QR code system, to facilitate the public to review their tax updates. — Bernama their
