‘People of the Land’ come together at Borneo Bengkel

-

KUCHING: In search of what it means to be Bornean, Borneo Bengkel will once again gather creatives from all over the island and beyond for its annual Creative Residency.

It takes place from Oct 4-10 in conjunction with What About Kuching ( WAK) Festival, a month-long community- created celebration of what Kuching has to offer.

Jointly organised by Catama Borneo and HAUS KCH, Borneo Bengkel is a creative platform that explores issues of Bornean identity and culture through the eyes of craft makers, filmmakers, artists, social activists, academicians and performers.

Now in its second year, the Creative Residency will bring them through an immersive two-week programme of cultural knowledge exchange, skillsharing and inter- disciplinary dialogue.

This year, Borneo Bengkel will be exploring what unites us with the theme ‘People of the Land’.

In this spirit, a community outreach programme will take place from Oct 6- 8 to encourage cross- community exchange to share and learn traditional skills with the community members of Kampung Sadir, Padawan.

This part of the programme hopes to empower and inspire the creatives and the community with the knowledge and skill in preserving their cultural identities.

The theme will also carry over to GlassHaus Weekends, happening from Oct 12-14 at HAUS KCH, where members of the public of all ages are invited to attend dialogue sessions, experience an array of creative workshops, shop at the Tamu Art Market, and feast their eyes on the People of the Land Art Exhibition.

“Each day will also end with cultural performances from your very own local homegrown talents. Keep an eye out Kuchingites, you wouldn’t want to miss this jam-packed weekend celebrating culture, arts, music and community,” the organisers said in a statement.

For more information, the public are advised to follow the organisers in their Facebook page at Borneo Bengkel.
