KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin visited the home of an unsung hero, the late Abdul Kadir Bujang, at Kampung Semariang Tanah Merah yesterday.

He said he made the visit to Kuching to offer his sympathy to Abdul Kadir’s family and because he was amazed by Abdul Kadir’s selflessness.

“I read the news and was amazed by the deceased’s good deeds. This is not a political move. This visit is because I was touched by his act and I wanted to see the family (of the deceased),” he said when met yesterday.

This was his second visit here and he would fly back to Kuala Lumpur at 4pm after visiting the family.

He said he told his children about Abdul Kadir’s good deeds, and advised them to follow the latter’s selfless act.

He added that he contacted Amanah Sarawak to arrange the visit as he is not familiar with Sarawak, but pointed out that his visit was not political.

Meanwhile, when asked about any new proposals at the upcoming Parliamentary sitting on Oct 15, he said he would be attending a meeting on the sitting today.

Abdul Kadir, 57, died in a road accident recently while ferrying a box of stray kittens he rescued.

The accident occurred at the Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) roundabout when his motorcycle skidded and hit a road divider. He died on the spot.

He was the third child and had nine siblings. He worked at a car wash centre.

He was a frequent rescuer of stray cats, and kept cats as pets.
