PH plans strategy for 70 per cent turnout

-

SEREMBAN: The Pakatan Harapan Committee for the Port Dickson By- election ( PRK), is drawing up a number of strategies to ensure that the voter turnout will reach the 70 per cent targeted.

Its director Aminuddin Harun said this included ensuring 35 per cent of the registered voters who were outside Port Dickson would also be returning to vote in the by- election this time.

“Our goals are to ensure voters come out to vote and those outside the area return home to perform their responsibilities.

“Among those we are planning is to provide free transportation for voters who are out of the area and we are also open to any party willing to offer this service,” he told the media after attending the state exco meeting here yesterday.

Aminuddin, who is also Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, said that he was now satisfied with the Port Dickson people’s response throughout the campaign for the by- election.

“Every night, at the end of the campaign, we will discuss the response received and the campaign plan for the next day.

“This is to ensure that campaign conducted daily will always be improved from time to time,” said Aminuddin, who is also Negeri Sembilan Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) chairman.

There are 77,750 voters in the Port Dickson parliamentary constituency comprising 43 per cent Malay voters, 33 per cent Chinese, 22 per cent Indian and two per cent others.

In the 14th general election ( May 9), Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, of PKR won the seat with a comfortable majority of 17,710 votes defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk V.S. Mogan and Mahfuz Roslan from PAS. — Bernama
