UB Iban public speaking competition first round tomorrow
KUCHING: The preliminary round for the Utusan Borneo (UB) Iban Language Public Speaking Competition will be held this Friday at 1pm at Kingwood Hotel here.
According to the organisers, the preliminary round will involve those competing in the Under- 35 category, for a spot in the final which will be held on Saturday at the auditorium of Batu Lintang Teachers Education Institute (IPG).
Meanwhile, participants of the Under-17 and Open categories are also asked to be present at Kingwood Hotel on Friday to draw lots to determine the order for the final. The drawing-of-lots will take place at 4pm after the preliminary round of the Under-35 category, and includes a high-tea reception.

The event this year is supported by Association for the Educational Development of Iban Language (Aedil), Tun Jugah Foundation, Majlis Adat Istiadat Sarawak, See Hua Marketing, Wai FM, Cats FM, Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan; as well as Dayak-based non-governmental organisations and local universities.

He added that the competition, which is offering attractive cash prizes, has attracted competitors from divisions other than Kuching and Samarahan.
Members of the public are invited to watch the preliminary and final rounds, while associations are encouraged to send as many members as possible. Competitors are also asked to bring along family members and friends.
