Adventure group plans cross border social visits

-

KUCHING: A group of people who took part in the historic Danau Sentarum - Kapuas River Cruise Adventure last year, are planning another adventure across the border next month.

Called the ‘Kapuas Hulu Exotic Overland Adventure’, the tour is planned for this Nov 17 to 21 going via the Lubok Antu ( Sarawak) and Badau ( West Kalimantan, Indonesia) border. Unlike last year’s adventure which saw participants going on a cruise on a lake and river, the group will go by bus for this year’s adventure.

Their first stop will be at Ensana Dayak, an Iban longhouse in Nanga Kantuk, West Kalimantan area. The next destination will be Lunsa Hilir Kapuas Hulu, a Dayak Taman traditional longhouse, after crossing the Kapuas River by ferry at Semitau with few stops along the main road leading to Putussibau.

After experiencing the traditional Dayak Taman hospitality, the tour will depart for Putussibau to experience and witness the diverse community of many ethnic groups going about with their daily activities.

After that, the tour will proceed downward back towards Badau-Lubok Antu border with a number of stops along the way.

Among the stops will be at Benua Tengah Sungai Ulok Palin which is a Dayak Tamambaloh traditional longhouse, Munggok and Sadap which are both Dayak Iban longhouses.

Sadap is located by the Batang Kanyau which is famously known by the Dayak Iban of Sarawak. There is an old settlement called Tembawai Pulau Ensulit located not far from Sadap which is associated with an Iban Temenggong from Kapit.

Their subsequent stop will be at Kedungkang, a Dayak Iban longhouse by the Danau Sentarum, in the upper Kapuas River. The group will take a cruise across the lake before departing for Sumpak Sengkuang, a Dayak Iban longhouse nearby Lanjak also in the vicinity of Danau Sentarum.

The five- day, four-night adventure has attracted more than 40 enthusiastic participants including some senior Dayak leaders. Those interested to join the adventure tour may contact Alim Mideh at 012- 8467234 or Terence Temenggong at 0128891949 for more details.

Last year’s tour was jointly led by Pemanca Datuk Janggu Banyang and Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw in January. The upcoming tour is being coordinated with the support from the Dewan Adat Dayak of West Kalimantan, the tourism body of West Kalimantan and local authorities.
