Reach out to those outside church community — Rep

-

MIRI: Borneo Evangelical Mission ( BEM) churches have been called to continue serving their members and the community while spreading the word of God to those outside the congregation.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said they should also use or utilise their resources to reach out to those outside their church community.

In fact, the churches should go beyond their comfort zone to help those in need, he added.

“I am also urging town churches with good fi nancing to reach out to our churches in the rural areas, especially in Telang Usan.

“As you all know, many churches in rural areas are struggling due to shortage of finance and without a pastor to lead the congregation,” Dennis said at the BEM Ferry Point 25th anniversary dinner at a hotel here recently.

On another note, Dennis reminded church leaders to play a prominent role in evangelisation.

First, he said, they must teach their congregation about the life of Jesus and His teachings and also to continuously spread the Gospel.

“If all church leaders place these two above all else, and most importantly practise it in their daily lives, the teaching of Lord Jesus will transcend greatly among the society.

“I believe this has been the practice and the core value of BEM Church Ferry Point since it opened its door 25 years ago and the basis for the church’s continued growth into a full blown BEM church in Miri city today,” he added.

At the dinner, Dennis handed over minor rural project ( MRP) fund of RM10,000 to the church to carry out its activities, in particular to purchase a van to transport church members to church.

Among those attending the dinner were chairman of BEM Miri district Pastor Luther Sakai and Pastor Sarai.
