SIBU: Organisers hope the coaching clinic to be conducted by top state cueist Ng Hong Man on Oct 6 (Saturday) will prove to be a game changer.

There is no coaching fee for those interested in attending the clinic which will be held at Executive 3 Snooker Centre at Jalan Wong King Huo here.

Sibu City Swan Snooker Club ( SCSSC), which has been instrumental in promoting snooker, had appointed Ng to conduct the first formal coaching clinic ever held in Saawak.

SCSSC president Mark Yeo said Ng is the best candidate to take up the post as there is currently no recognised snooker coach in the state.

He said Ng was appointed by virtue of his consistent performance in local tournaments including winning the 2016 Sa r awak Clo s e d Snooker Championship.

“Ng had also attended a five- day training stint in Bangkok several years back when he sparred with the international players for more learning curve and other expert ise to boost his own credentials,” Yeo added.

He explained that SCSSC decided to take aggressive action to boost the sport as no one or organisation is willing to take up the challenge.

“If we also chose to remain silent, this will eventually spell the doom of the state snooker development programme,” he said.

“Hopefully, we can lure more youngsters to take up the game. The future of the sport lies with these youngsters,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, 49-year- old Ng said he was looking forward to the “big challenge” to “push the sport towards a new frontier.”

“Basically, I will teach them the potting skills and techniques and, for the rest, it will have to depend on their own mental strength and determination.”

He pledged to double his efforts to polish his own game and update himsel f on playing techniques so that he can share all the good values for taking up the sport.
