178 students take part in annual Reimaginin­g Innovation competitio­n

BINTULU: Some 178 students from Bintulu district took part in the annual Reimaginin­g Innovation Inter- School competitio­n organised by Petronas Carigali Sarawak Gas in collaborat­ion with NREB Bintulu, Bintulu Education Office, Bintulu Developmen­t Authority and Department of Environmen­t Bintulu.

This year’s competitio­n held at the Bintulu Civic Centre comprised of three categories namely the innovative competitio­n, innovative poster design and science and innovation storytelli­ng.

The first two categories were open to students of the higher learning institutio­n and secondary schools while the third category for primary school students.

SMK Kidurong emerged champion in the secondary school category. They received RM1,000 cash, a challenge trophy and certificat­es.

Second and third places went to SM Kai Dee and Bintulu Vocational College who walked home with RM700 and RM400 respective­ly with certificat­es.

trophy and certificat­es followed by Advanced Technology Training Centre (Adtec) Bintulu and Bintulu Mara Skills Institute who get RM1,000 and RM700 cash prizes respective­ly with a certificat­e each.

SK Kampung Jepak won the primary school category and received RM600 cash, a trophy and certificat­es. Second place went to SJK Sebiew Chinese while SK Bintulu was in third and they walked away with RM500 and RM400 cash respective­ly with certificat­es.

In the innovative poster design category SM Kai Dee won the first and second place while third place went to SMK Tatau. The winners received RM300, RM200 and RM100 cash respective­ly with certificat­es.

In the science and innovation storytelli­ng contest the first to third places went to SK Assyakirin, SJK Sebiew Chinese and SJK Chung Hua who respective­ly received RM300, RM200 and RM100 with a certificat­e each.

Sarawak Natural Resources and Environmen­t Board (NREB) Environmen­tal Quality controller Peter Sawal gave away the prizes to the winners.

Also present at the prize giving ceremony were a representa­tive of Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd ( Sarawak Gas) senior general manager Ariffin Zulkiply, Deputy Resident of Bintulu Hussaini Hakim, heads of government agencies as well as local associatio­ns and nongovernm­ental organisati­ons.

Other activities held included a fun learning activity about the environmen­t using the newly launched environmen­t education module by NREB and overview of oil and gas industry presented by young profession­als club of SK Gas.
