Depp refutes ex-wife Amber Heard’s claims of abuse

LOS ANGELES: Actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have reached a divorce settlement outside of court, just one day before their scheduled restraining order hearing .

But Depp is adamantly denying he abused her.

In an interview with British GQ, Depp said: “The thing that hurt me is being presented as something that you’re really as far away from as you could possibly get, you know?”

Heard claimed that Depp, whom she divorced in 2017, abused her. She fi led for a restraining order against him while providing evidence of harm, including a bruise on her cheek, claiming the actor had recently thrown a cellphone at her face.

The Los Angeles police who went to their downtown loft the night of the alleged abuse have said they found no evidence of a crime when they arrived.

Depp also spoke about his path from indie actor to major box office draw and how originally Disney wasn’t sold on his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”.

Depp claimed he was subsequently “freaked out” by the fame.

Said Depp: “I was freaked out by it. I mean, at the beginning I genuinely didn’t give a ( expletive) about acting. But I began to enjoy it. I enjoyed creating those characters up there, being in the trenches and sparring with collaborators, actors, directors... The trouble with working with these big studios is they can get uncomfortable about certain creative decisions you make. That happened with ‘ Pirates’. My view is if the studio isn’t worried then I’m not doing my job properly.”
