Public awareness of Socso services lacking

-

KUCHING: Public awareness on the services provided by Social Security Organisation ( Socso) seems to be still lacking.

Sarawak Socso deputy director Dundang Undong said this was proven when they received a report recently of a death after a lapse of 23 years, and found out that the victim was eligible for assistance.

He said this particular case could only be the proverbial ‘ tip of an iceberg’.

“The services provided by Socso are not well understood by the public as indicated by the recent case. It is thus important that we conduct more interaction programmes to tell the people of the services being provided,” he said at the closing of a seminar with community leaders from Padawan area, held at Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) training room in Kota Padawan, yesterday.

He added that Socso was expanding, and wanted their contributors to know about their services.

Dundang said the organisation was slowly working to get the selfemployed people like farmers, fishermen and breeders to get themselves covered under Socso just like Grab and taxi drivers.

He said similar seminar would continue to be held to disseminate information to their contributors.

He said the programme was necessary because Socso would not be able to go to every village to tell people about the services being provided.

Temenggong Austin Dimin, Pemanca Raymond Jihap and senior Socso staff were also present at the seminar.
