SMK St Columba team to don S’wak colours at hockey meet
MIRI: SMK St Columba will represent Sarawak at the 12th UPSI Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris ( UPSI) International Hockey Championship 2018 which will take place at the Arena Sports Complex in Sultan Azlan Shah Campus in Perak.
According to Miri hockey coach Rudi Naziri, this is the first time the team is representing the state in the event.
“This will be a good experience for the players and it will definitely boost their playing skills too.
“If they do well, they might also carve the name of Miri and Sarawak at international level hockey.
“I am very sure they can do well, as they have been practicing hard for this.
“I hope they (the players) also take this opportunity to learn hockey skills from other participating teams as well, and use what they learn during the tournament to improve themselves,” he said.
Yesterday, the team received sponsorship, in the form of jerseys, from Ki Dewasu Paranormal Team Sarawak, presented to Rudi by its president Sendar@ Muhammad Abdulllah.
Also present were member of Ki Dewasu Paranormal Team Sarawak Andrew Abdullah and a former student of SMK St Columba Zaharah Osman who helped the team to look for sponsors.
“I urge all the players to do their best and never give up. I know they can make Miri and Sarawak proud,” said Rudi.
