Ministry keen on empowering women to excel in business

BAU: The Ministry of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t is taking serious efforts to empower more women to excel in business.

Its minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah says besides offering courses, financial support for the beginners is also available now.

According to her, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated RM500,000 for the programme and the fund is now available under her ministry. Under the programme, participan­ts can apply for financing loan of up to RM5,000. Fatimah points out that the support is necessary to help upgrade the socio- economy of the households and eventually, eradicate poverty.

because we believe it will help to increase the household income and eradicate poverty,” Fatimah pointed out yesterday when opening Mega Wisma Wanita Training Centre ( WWTC) Bau Zone. The event held at the civic centre here was attended by 145 women entreprene­urs from around Bau.

She said to date, 14,282 women across Sarawak have attended the various courses offered by the ministry.

Fatimah said while the ministry provides assistance, women need to have self- confidence to succeed in business and be willing to tap the various opportunit­ies.

“To succeed, women need to have commitment and should never surrender,” she stressed, adding that support from local elected representa­tives and family members is also very important.

She also said the ministry would continue with its outreach programme aimed at assisting women to do well in business.

Present at the event were Assistant Minister of Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus, Sarawak Women and Family Developmen­t Department director Noriah Ahmad, Tasik Biru assemblyma­n Datuk Henry Harry Jinep and Bau District Officer Anielia Siam.
