PKR opens sub-branch in Kampung Tebakang Bidayuh in Serian

-

SERIAN: The Serian branch of Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) has opened its sub- branch at Kampung Tebakang Bidayuh, in response to high interest shown by the community there to join the party.

Such move is also indicative of the party’s intention to contest in Bukit Semuja in the next Sarawak state election, in view of Kampung Tebakang Bidayuh being among the largest villages in the constituency.

Edward Andrew Luwak contested as a Democratic Action Party ( DAP) candidate in the 2016 polls, but lost to then- Barisan Nasional ( BN) direct pick John Ilus.

PKR Serian deputy chairman Reginald Abel, who officiated at the opening of the Kampung Tebakang Bidayuh party subbranch, said he was touched and surprised by the response from the people here.

“Apart from recruiting more members to join PKR in Serian, efforts are ongoing to continue strengthening PKR in preparations for the 12th state election, expected to be called either in 2020 or 2021.

“Since Pakatan Harapan ( PH) won the 14th general election in May this year and formed the new federal government, many people have been coming forward to join PKR. This shows that the people also want the change in the state government, and that change would take place,” said Abel when met yesterday, where he came on behalf of PKR Sarawak State Leadership Council to officiate at the ceremony.

He congratulated PKR Kampung Tebakang Bidayuh subbranch chairman Christopher Maurice Budit, its commitee members and PKR supporters in the village for making the event possible.

PKR Serian permanent chairman and treasurer Alex Saben Nyipong was also present at the event.

“We have over 30 sub-branches in bigger villages and polling stations in Serian. Some are still in pro tem mode prior to launching, and some need to be reorganised and reactivated after PKR elections in November,” added Abel.
