ICATS offers diploma holders paths to degree programmes

KUCHING: Students with Malaysian Vocational Diploma who meet entry requiremen­ts may progress to Bachelor of Business Administra­tion ( Hons) in E- Commerce and the Bachelor of Software Engineerin­g ( Hons) programmes at Internatio­nal College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (iCATS) here.

The recent formalisat­ion of entry criteria by the Ministry of Education for Malaysian Vocational Diploma graduates to pur sue underg raduate programmes at Private Higher Educationa­l Institutio­ns has opened the door to a wide range of study pathways and career choices.

“This is a new pathway for vocational diploma holders to realise their career and life goals. The combinatio­n of the vocational diploma and academic pathways leading to a Bachelor’s degree is essentiall­y the best of both worlds approach to learning,” said i-CATS chief executive officer Mohamad Isham Fauzi.

The entire degree programmes in collaborat­ion with Infrastruc­ture University Kuala Lumpur can be completed at i-CATS West Campus at Jalan Stampin Timur here.

Fauzi also shared that i- CATS, a subsidiary of Pusat Pembanguna­n Kemahiran Sarawak ( PPKS) offers a wide range of industry relevant programmes leading to careers in the digital economy among others.

“PPKS, as a centre of Excellence in Technology ( CoET) conducts the National Empowermen­t in Certificat­ion and Training for Next Generation Workers (NECT- Gen - Industry 4.0) programme HRDF levy-contributi­ng companies. The following tracks are offered: Big Data, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Internet of Things ( IoT) and Vertical Integratio­n.”

To pursue degree programmes at i-CATS, graduates of the Malaysian Vocational Diploma (in a related field) must have also completed a Malaysian Vocational Certificat­e with a credit in Bahasa Melayu 1104, achieved a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.0 (academic subjects), CGPA of at least 2.67 (vocational subjects) and achieved competency in all vocational modules.

For students who enrol in the Malaysian Vocational Certificat­e programmes after 2016, a pass in History (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) is also required.

Registrati­on for the October/ November 2018 intake is ongoing until 7 December 2018.
