ATV Awards to host 23rd Asian Television Awards at BCCK

KUCHING: ATV Awards Sdn Bhd will collaborat­e with Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports to host the 23rd Asian Television Awards (ATV) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) on Jan 11 to 12 next year.

This will followed by an open air concert on Jan 13 at the Amphitheat­re in Jalan Budaya here. ATV recognises and rewards programmin­g and production excellence in the Asian television industry, according to the event official press statement yesterday.

Held annually over two evenings, the Awards draws hundreds of entries each year from a wide range of broadcaste­rs, including free-to-air TV stations, pay-TV platforms, digital streaming services as well as many independen­t production houses in Asia.

A panel comprising 60 to 70 judges converge to adjudicate the entries. The results are then tabulated and audited by PriceWater­houseCoope­rs with winners announced during the Awards’ nights to be held in Kuching on January 2019.

A press conference will be held together with The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak in due time. Numerous entries have been received from 14 countries, 49 broadcaste­rs and 40 Production Companies currently with the panel of judges in the process of adjudicati­ng the entries from various categories.

With a reach to over 500,000,000 homes across Asia Pacific, this Award will certainly be a major boost for Sarawak in line with Visit Sarawak Year 2019.

The show will witness invited guests from the crème de la crème of the television industry for the event with over 500 internatio­nal delegates comprising film producers, directors, performers, host talents, panel of judges, key sponsors, nominees and celebritie­s from the participat­ing countries all over Asia.

Asia TV Awards chairman Lee Kim Whye, Advisors to the ATV Koh Jik Seng and Sim Kiang Chiok, ATVA managing director Pung Siok Eng met up with the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at his office recently. The ministry’s permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee was also present.
