Ling lauds support for constitution amendment by GPS MPs

-

MIRI: Pakatan Harapan Sarawak secretary- general, Senator Alan Ling Sie Kiong is pleased to learn that Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) members of parliament are going to support the proposed amendment to Article 1( 2) of the Federal Constitution.

He said this was a positive move by GPS MPs to ensure the interests of Sarawak and Sabah are well taken care of.

“The federal government needs two-thirds majority in Parliament for the constitutional amendment, and the support of all GPS MPs is very much needed,” he said.

Ling, who is also Sarawak DAP secretary, accompanied Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong on his official visit to Sarawak on Monday .

He said the PH federal government was ‘walking the talk‘ to gradually restore the rights and status of Sabah and Sarawak in the federation as promised.

“I am confident that the PH government’s effort will receive the support of all MPs regardless of their political affliation, including those in Peninsular Malaysia.”

Ling said Liew and his officers were working hard on this, as proven by the latter taking time to personally go down to the ground to meet MPs and other interested parties to convey the message.

“In just less than six months in government, we are doing what Sarawakians, who under the previous administration never thought of amending the Federal Constitution in order to pave the way for more of our rights to be returned.”

He believed that once the original status is restored, all the rights would ‘flow’.

On a different note, the committee members of Holy Spirit Chapel in Taman Ceria here, led by their chairman Justin Larek, called on Ling at his office here yesterday.
