No SUPP leaders called by MACC
KUCHING: No Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) leader has been called in for questioning by Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) since the party’s account was frozen on June 29.
The anti- graft agency froze SUPP’s account due to speculations that the party had received fund from the scandalous 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
According to an insider source, the party’s top leader has been bearing the operating costs ( of the party) since the account was put under a three- month suspension.
Prior to this suspension, MACC also froze Umno’s account to facilitate the investigation into the 1MDB scandal.
It is learnt that SUPP has given its full cooperation when MACC issued the party with the account suspension notice.
However, three months have lapsed and the party is still awaiting further action from the MACC.
The source said SUPP had, through its counsel, written to the anti- graft agency, requesting the latter to unfreeze the party’s account.
The source added the party needed its money for the payment of operating costs, particularly the staff salaries.
It is understood that the MACC only froze the account of the party’s headquarters while the accounts of its various branches remain unaffected.
As of yesterday, the source confirmed that SUPP had not received any notice from the MACC with regard to the status of the party’s account.
Met by reporters recently, SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian was tight-lipped about the matter.
He said the party had to deal with the issue in a delicate manner, and hence, SUPP is seeking professional advice from its counsel.
On Wednesday, MACC declined to offer any comment or development on the case when reporters touched on the subject matter.
