Rep performs earth-breaking ceremony for new longhouse
MARUDI: Building a new longhouse requires cooperation and commitment of everyone – from the headman to the ordinary residents.
This is to ensure that the longhouse is built without any disturbance and interruption, said Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala.
Speaking at the earth-breaking ceremony at the site for the 12door Rumah Entawan Ujang at Padang Kerbau A, Lubok Nibong near here yesterday, the deputy speaker of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly announced that he had approved RM50,000 for the purchase of building materials for the longhouse and RM10,000 for the women’s bureau of the longhouse to purchase cooking utensils for community use under his MRP grant for next year.
He also said he had given a grant under his MRP for the purchase of a PA system for the longhouse, which was already in use.
On another matter, he said the project for the supply of treated water from Marudi to longhouses at Poyut/ Lubok Nibong area had been tendered out in May last year.
However, because the federal government had changed hands after the 14th general election, the implementation had been delayed, he added.
“We have to request it again from the GPS government and I have talked to the Minister of Utilities and even our Chief Minister on the matter,” he said.
At the same time, Gerawat reminded his constituents not to fall prey to other parties going around recruiting members as GPS was still the ruling party in Sarawak.
Also present were Marudi district officer Mackos Sibong, political secretary to the chief minister Charles Balan Seling, Pemanca Chong Chin Hui and Penghulu Randie Bundan.
