Bribery case: MACC detains OCPD, woman inspector

-

KUCHING: A district police chief attached in Sarawak was arrested last week by the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving bribes amounting to RM40,000 from an illegal lottery operator.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof, who confirmed the arrest, said the OCPD, who holds the rank of DSP, was arrested in a sting by MACC at a restaurant in Sibu on Oct 11, and is now placed under a four-day remand.

Following the OCPD’s arrest, a woman police inspector in Selangor was also arrested by MACC in Putrajaya on Friday night after having her statement recorded over the same case.

MACC Sarawak director Razim Mohd Noor, when contacted Saturday, said the 38-year- old inspector has been released on a bail of RM10,000 under one surety.

“We will wait for the result and development of the investigation by MACC Putrajaya,” he said.

Sources disclosed that the OCPD and the woman inspector are believed to have received bribes from illegal lottery operators.

It is said that the OCPD would direct the illegal lottery operators to transfer money to the inspector’s bank account, which would then be transferred into his own account by the inspector.

The woman inspector had served together with the OCPD when she was based in Sarawak.

The case is being investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009.
