PDP Opar wants Henry to defend Tasik Biru seat

KUCHING: Dato Henry Harry Jinep has received the support from Progressiv­e Democratic Party ( PDP) Opar division to defend the Tasik Biru seat in the state election expected to be held in two to three years’ time.

The declaratio­n of support was one of the resolution­s passed by PDP Opar division at its triennial general meeting (TGM) on October 7. A copy of the resolution­s was made available to the media yesterday.

Opar and Tasik Biru are neighbouri­ng state seats which make up the Mas Gading parliament­ary constituen­cy.

Henry won Tasik Biru in his debut at the 2016 state election. He also won unconteste­d as PDP Tasik Biru chairman at its TGM also held on Oct 7, during which he also received support from the division to go for the deputy president post.

Meanwhile, the other resolution­s passed by PDP Opar include a request to the party leadership to recommend from among PDP members in Mas Gading someone to be appointed a political secretary to the chief minister.

PDP Opar also resolved that the party president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing be returned unopposed at the PDP triennial general assembly (TGA), to be held on Nov 15 to 16 in Bintulu.

The division also requested the party headquarte­rs to provide financial allocation to party divisions in constituen­cies not represente­d by any assemblype­rson or member of parliament from PDP.

It also called on the party’s youth chief and women chief to visit every party division to learn more about problems faced at the grassroots.

A contractor from Bokah, Joseph Tau Katip, was elected as PDP Opar new chairman during the TGM. Deputy chairman is Henry Simon Rimau, while its women section head and youth section head are Melin Aban and Paulpot Sicol respective­ly.
