Rural development remains top priority of GPS, assures Repok assemblyman

SARIKEI: The Sarawak government, under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) rule, would continue to place priority on rural development, assures Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

According to him, this focus remains despite several ‘readjustments’ on Sarawak’s development agenda by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg following the change in the country’s political scenario after the 14th general election.

“The chief minister has given his assurance that the state government would continue to implement big projects, which have been planned, including the ongoing coastal highway project that is considered instrumental in generating economic growth in the coastal areas,” Huang said during a ‘Leader With People’ session at Rumah Jawi in Bulat near here recently.

He reiterated Abang Johari’s announcement of the RM5million Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) allocation for every assemblyman from GPS component parties, saying: “These RTP funds are meant for the implementation of various projects set to benefit of rural folk.”

He also highlighted the ‘good news’ for the people of this division, announced by Abang Johari during an event in Bintangor a few months ago — the construction of a 17km road connecting Sungai Pasi to Tanjong Manis/Sibu costing RM450 million.

It is known that this project also includes works on a 1.28km bridge across Batang Rajang.

“I have been made to understand that the tender for this project would be called soon,” said Huang, calling upon Sarawakians to continue supporting Abang Johari and GPS.
