Pustaka Miri to hold Paluan Kompang competition

MIRI: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri ( Pustaka Miri) will hold a Paluan Kompang competition at the e-library here on November 17, from 9am to 12pm.

The competition, an initiative by Pustaka Miri to preserve traditional musical instrument, is offering two categories – Kompang Formasi and Kompang Hadrah.

Kompang Formasi is a category for musical formation with company instrument and dance movement while Kompang Hadrah is the category that opens to only singing performance with Kompang instrument without any dance movement and in static position.

Attractive prizes await the winners, with first prize winner to walk home with RM1,500 cash and certificate of participation, second place to receive RM1,300 and certificate of participation and third place winner will receive RM1,000 and certificate of participation. Winners of consolation prizes from both categories will receive RM200 and certificate of participation.

Interested participants must form a group of eight to 12 members for Kompang Formasi category and a maximum of 15 members for the hadrah category. The limitation is due to space availability. Interested members of the public are also welcome to support and enjoy the performance with free admission.
