RM1.5 million for footpath, cemetery road at Nanga Ngungun
KANOWIT: An allocation of RM1.5 million under the Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) has been approved for a footpath to the kindergarten and primary school of Nanga Ngungun Resettlement Scheme and a proper road to their burial ground.
Ngemah assemblyman Alexander Vincent announced the approval of the funding when he officiated at the closing of ‘Nanga Ngungun Festival’ at the resettlement on Saturday.
“We will have a lab on Nov 1 and these projects have already been included in my Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) for this year.
“The road to Song and Kapit will be ready soon and therefore it is necessary to have a footpath built here,” he added. Earlier, organising chairman Tuai Rumah Ron Ugai informed that the Nanga Ngungun village security and development committee (JKKK) was concerned about the safety of children who walked daily on the narrow road in the resettlement to get to school.
“More and more vehicles are plying the road now especially those from Song and Kapit travelling to Sibu or the other way around after Kanowit bridge was declared open last year,” he said.
The road was initially part of the Kapit/Song/ Kanowit main road but the government had decided to make a bypass after considering the safety aspect of the longhouse residents in the resettlement.
Ron also said there was a need to have a proper road to their burial ground.
Alexander also announced an MRP allocation of RM20,000 for Nanga Ngungun JKKK at the same event.
