Boy, 18, nabbed over alleged rape of 14-year-old

-

SIBU: A teenage boy was arrested here recently for allegedly raping an underage girl last month.

According to sources, the 18year- old suspect was picked up by police following a report lodged by the mother of the 14-year- old girl.

The victim, who is the youngest of eight siblings, is said to have befriended the suspect on Facebook about six months ago.

The alleged rape is said to have taken place on Sept 26 at an undisclosed location here.

After learning of the matter, the girl’s mother confronted the boy and was supposed to meet with him at his family’s house on Oct 9, but was told he had gone outstation.

This led to her lodging a police report on Oct 10, leading to his arrest.

In an unrelated incident, a woman lost RM1,500 to a scammer who claimed to be a police officer.

The victim had apparently come across an advertisement on the internet regarding the sale of a used car. She then contacted the number listed and spoke to a person who identified himself as ‘ Inspector Azmi’, who quoted a price of RM1,500.

After depositing the cash, the suspect told the woman to go to Sibu Central Police Station as the car was parked there.

Upon arriving at the police station, she realised she had been conned as not only was there no one by the name of ‘ Inspector Azmi’ there, there was also no such car matching the one she saw in the advertisement parked there.

Police are investigating following a report lodged by the woman.
