30 international photographers vie for top placing in Miri competition
MIRI: Thirty photographers and members of the media from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Taiwan are here for the maiden edition of ‘ Miri International Photography Competition’.
The competition, which kicked off yesterday, runs till Oct 19.
Members of the organising committee were on hand to welcome the international participants at Miri International Airport yesterday.
Miri City Council, Photographic Society of Malaysia and Miri Photographic Society are coorganisers of the event, run in connection with the ‘ Visit Miri Year 2018’ campaign, and also the launch of ‘Visit Sarawak Year 2019’ and ‘ Visit Malaysia Year 2020’ campaigns.
Photographers and journalists get to visit various tourism spots around this city, highlighting the diversity of cultures, the wonders of nature and the variety of food here. These attractions include Miri’s first oil well the Grand Old Lady, Niah National Park, Lambir Hills National Park and Miri Crocodile Farm. The participants also get to visit several longhouses.
The winner of this maiden competition will take home RM8,000, while the first and second runner-up will bag RM5,000 and RM3,000, respectively.
The top three contestants will also receive certificates.
A consolation prize of RM1,000 will be presented to each of five finalists.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin officiated at the opening ceremony in Pullman Miri Waterfront yesterday.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is expected to perform the closing ceremony on Oct 19.
