Pekida Bintulu eyes 100 donors for upcoming blood donation drive

-

BINTULU: The district’s Malaysian Islamic Propagation and Welfare Organisation (Pekida) is organising a blood donation drive set to take place at Bintulu Commerce Square Mall this Oct 27.

The programme, themed ‘Setitis Darah Seribu Makna 2.0’, will run from 9.30am to 4pm.

According to Pekida Bintulu deputy chairman Mohamad Zakry Kiprawi, who is also the programme manager, the organiser has set a target of gathering 100 donors that day. He adds that there will be other activities as well such as a health screening, health talks and the opening of Pekida Bintulu’s customer service counter.

“For the record, this is our second programme. Following the success of last year’s event, we want to continue with this programme to give the opportunity to Pekida members to be more involved in health-related activities and also serving the community.

“We also want to provide greater awareness among Pekida members and the public of the importance of blood donation in saving lives.

“We have extended our invitation to 16 agencies and I hope they would come to support this meaningful event,” said Zakry.

He pointed out that as an active Islamic non-governmental organisation ( NGO), Pekida Bintulu would continue to run activities that could get them closer to the local community.

“We want to promote Pekida as an Islamic NGO that is active in giving support and assistance, particularly those related to social services, regardless of race and religion,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pekida Bintulu chairman Wan Sulaiman Wan Maulana said by having this kind of event, it could foster closer rapport between the NGO and local government agencies.

“Pekida Bintulu is expanding and we are recruiting more members,” he said.
