Hope Place seeks donations for physically-challenged divorcee

-

KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching is appealing for public donations to help a physically- challenged man, who has been unable to work following a road accident.

Founder Kelvin Wan said Abom Baja, a 58year- old divorcee from Samarahan, used to be a contract worker until a motorcycle accident in 2017 left him unable to work.

“He experiences great difficulty in walking and relies on a wheelchair to move around most of the time. He lives alone and cannot earn any income for himself, and is dependent on the charity of others,” said Wan.

He added Abom stays in a small house which only has some basic furniture and no water or electricity supply, relying on a kerosene lamp at night.

“For the past year, Abom has managed to survive because of the help and charity of fellow villagers and friends.

“These kind-hearted people will buy food as well as daily necessities for him and sometimes they also give him pocket money,” said Wan, adding that Hope Place is helping Abom by providing him some food other necessities.

“Abom’s wheelchair was given by Socso, and his friend has also just helped him to apply for social welfare assistance. I am hoping some more assistance will pour in for him,” said Wan.

Hope Place can be reached on 013- 5672775 or 082- 505987, from 8.30am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm ( Mondays to Friday) and from 9am to 12pm on Saturdays.
