SMK Kuching High, CHPS 3 triumph in state wushu meet
KUCHING: Host Kuching emerged as the overall champions of the 27th Sarawak Wushu Championship which ended at SJK Chung Hua No. 4 school hall along Jalan Nanas on Sunday.
They captured 186 gold, 85 silver and 24 bronze medals to amass 295 points to finish ahead of Sibu who collected 197 points from 124 gold, 44 silver and 29 silver medals while Miri were third with 18 points after winning 15 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals for 85 points.
Kuching also made a clean sweep of titles in both the primary schools and secondary schools sections, with the 10-member SMK Kuching High team amassing 185 points to top the secondary schools contest, followed by SMK Sungai Merah, Sibu in second place with 167 points and SMK Bandai Kuching No. 1 were third with 52 points.
As for the primary schools category, SJK Chung Hua No. 3 were crowned the overal l champions after they collected 194 points while SJK Chung Hua No. 5 and SJK Chung Hua No. 6 finished second and third with 187 points and 133 points respectively.
Nearly 300 athletes from 38 primary and secondary schools from Kuching, Sibu and Miri took part in the annual championship jointly organised by Kelab Wushu Bandar Kuching and Wushu Federation of Sarawak and supported by the Sarawak State Sports Council and Sarawak Education Department.
The main objective of the tournament was to unearth new talents who will be roped into the state team to be groomed for future national meets.
